Through my LENs, I'm capturing and documenting images that will be remembered for many years to come.
Black Lives Matter protests are happening throughout the entire world along with the deadly COVID-19 disease that's killing the young and elderly, but mostly African Americans. While a lot of people have chosen to stay at home to remain safe from COVID-19, young and old people of all races are leaving the safety of their homes to participate in a local Black Lives Matter peaceful protest and executing their 1st Amendment | Free Speech Right. Black people (particularly black men) are being murdered and brutalized by the police and other people of a different race what seems like every day or week throughout this place we call the United States of America. Is it really the United States? I think not. Below are some of the images I captured at the local peaceful protest in Raleigh and Holly Springs, NC. Enjoy the photos and take note of the mix of people from all races and ethnicities. Oh, did I mention the signs and murals have POWERFUL messages too?
#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.
Sam Cooke sang, "A Change Is Gonna Come".
It's been a long, long time coming
But I know that change is gonna come
